Mailhot's book is simply beautiful, engaging, and fun, including the colouring book at the back! The wording is perfect for the new reader in the family and the adventurous discussion of colours will charm a youngster learning their colours. Such a great read!
So I borrowed this book from a friend, and immediately was drawn to the warm yet vibrant colours and gently drawn artwork, that gave it a personal touch. As I read through the book, I imagined reading or having this book for the younger ones in my circle, and them being wowed with the variety of images and intrigued by the question prompts on each page. I definitely think it is an educational book with an opportunity to spend quality time with the adult reader as they explore each page. I LOVE, LOVE the activity at the end for the kids to colour in some of the art work from the book. I am definitely keeping this in my gift stock for children 6/7 and under!!
Finding a book that little kids actually engage with is such a challenge. I ended up picking this up on a recommendation from a friend because, really, what do you get a five-year-old on for her birthday? The answer? Chizilla and Little Spoon's endless delightful antics, that's what! And the colouring sections in the back are a fun little surprise once you've arrived at the end. And not to brag, but I even stayed inside the lines.
Long story short, I have since bought three more birthday copies for family and friends.
